“The Swiss Army Knife” of motion capture” (animator at Ubisoft Toronto)

  • Performance Capture

My first game was playing Ethan Mars in Heavy Rain. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a long lasting passion for motion capture acting, now an established performance capture actor in multiple games - both indie and AAA.

I specialize in transforming myself physically, emotionally and psychologically into other people and beings - seeing mocap as an interactive physical storytelling medium.

Fully aware that I am part of a team, I am always learning how my performance can support the animators that bring the character into the game. This has led me to be a facial capture operator for third party sound studios, and providing reverse ADR as an actor/operator.

Highlights: Ethan Mars, Heavy Rain. Bagley , Watchdogs Legion, Boudly doubling for *** *** for Far Cry 6, Upcoming project expected Spring 2025.

    Interactive

Choose your own adventure was a big hit with me growing up. I even attempted to code a CYOA game on the BBC micro b... (that dates me! I was about 8 or 10 I think). I also love radio plays for their ability to draw you into a world so deeply you don't notice the lights aren't on as it gets dark! (true story). it was a dream combination to work on Ubisoft/Audible/Coex production of an audio CYOA reprising the role of Bagley.

I also produced (and co wrote) a live animated facial capture on stage. I worked with Alison Humphrey on “Faster Than Night”, creating a one hour “three souls two life jackets” theatrical experience that ended with the audience deciding who’s life should be sacrificed. This was repurposed for a live interactive production for AWE we named the “Augmentalist

I am now working towards a theatrical interactive experience I hope to produce in 2026.

    Movement Direction & Training

Way back in 2010 I was using a technique I had developed fusing behavioral science with acting technique to propose a “behavior library”. This was put to the side, even as I was asked repeatedly as an actor to perform for such libraries in almost every game.

Happily time, place and people came together and I became movement director dedicated helping the actors create characters that could also be part of a behavior library - the backbone to the “play as anyone” mechanic in Watchdogs Legion.

Now when asked to create character specific libraries I can offer a highly efficient approach honed over more than a decade of development!

I am now Head of Canadian operations for the Mocap Vaults also curating the global student community.
